Note: The club is now meeting at The Center at 10 Elm in Boxford, just across the street from our previous location.

On Friday, March 1st at 7:30pm we will have our next astronomy club meeting at The Center at 10 Elm in Boxford. Please note the change of location! Henceforth, the club will meet at The Center at 10 Elm in Boxford, just across the street from our previous location. At this meeting we will have our regular club business meeting which will include our annual elections. Once that completes (approx 7:45PM) we will have our guest speaker.

This month‘s presentation, by John S. Gianforte, Director of the UNH Observatory, UNH Astronomy Instructor, Science Writer, and Adjunct Faculty at Granite State College, will be about the solar eclipse coming up on Monday, April 8, 2024, with a focus on viewing it safely. The last total eclipse which touched New England (Nantucket) was in 1970 and there will not be another total eclipse path across New England in the next 50 years.

Professor Gianforte explains, "Knowing that your group is experienced and knowledgeable, I will spend time in my talk discussing how to train non-astronomers—teachers, parents, and students how to observe the eclipse safely from wherever they plan on watching the eclipse from.

I‘m looking forward to speaking to your astronomers again. I always enjoy my talks with you guys!"
