On Friday, February 2nd at 7:30pm we will have our next astronomy club meeting at The Center at 10 Elm in Boxford. Please note the change of location! Henceforth, the club will meet at The Center at 10 Elm in Boxford, just across the street from our previous location. At this meeting we will have our regular club business meeting. Once that completes (approx 7:45PM) we will have our guest speaker.

This month‘s presentation will be on The Voyager Program, presented by Professor John Winston Belcher, Emeritus Professor of Physics at MIT. Professor Belcher‘s interest in science started as a teenager in west Texas when he ground his own 6 inch mirror. It still sits on his bookshelf today! Professor Belcher will be talking about his experience with the Voyager program. He was the principal investigator on the Voyager Plasma Science Experiment and is now a co-investigator on the Plasma Science Experiment on board the Voyager Interstellar Mission. He has won the NASA Exceptional Scientific Achievement Medal, not once but twice for his work on the program.

You can learn more about Professor Belcher at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Winston_Belcher. The two Voyager spacecraft left Earth over 46 years ago and Voyager 1 has travelled more than 15 billion miles. Additional reading on Voyager: https://voyager.jpl.nasa.gov/mission/status/
